About the Birmingham Faith Map

Councillor Rudge began working with a number of the City’s Faith leaders, who were invited to join in the ‘Faith Round Table’, to consider how to improve ways in which Faith Communities and the City Council can work together more effectively to the mutual benefit of the citizens of Birmingham. The concept of Faith Mapping, making use of the internet, grew out of these ongoing discussions.

In 2010 the members of the Faith Round Table had a presentation of a Faith Mapping website. Since that meeting, the website has been further developed and made accessible to the Faith Communities in all Birmingham Constituencies for consultation. The Faith Round Table hopes that you will be willing to support this project.

All information, relating to places of worship/gathering, and their activities, is either in the public domain or been supplied directly by the place of worship/gathering. If you are able to provide aditional information it will, amongst other things, make it easier to assess the contribution made by the Faith Sector to the well-being of Birmingham.

Guidance on using this web site can be found in the Help section.

Councillor Rudge gave this description in his annual report to the City Council on June 15th 2010.

“Birmingham is, outside of London, the UK’s most diverse City, made up of wide ranging communities. This mixture of culture, faith, religion and different backgrounds all contribute to the positive community cohesion within the City”

“A fundamental and major part of my work, and personal commitment, has been to maintain the support I give to communities and the contribution I make to community cohesion.

Therefore I have continued to build upon the links that I have formed and work with a wide range of community groups in order to develop the essential community cohesion and faith approach to our work.

On behalf of the Council I am leading a piece of work that includes working closely with Faith Groups to develop a ‘faith map’ which will outline all of the places of worship or gathering within the City for those wishing to participate in Faith activities. The IT based Faith Mapping project will show the major Faiths in the City, Their places of Worship, contact details and the range of functions that they carry out. This enables citizens of the City, and visitors to the City, to locate the nearest faith centre to them, and in relation to their own faith. In addition the map will recognise the importance of Faith communities to the City.”
